From Our Wardens

Christ Church is a parish within the Episcopal Church in the United States of America and part of the world-wide Anglican Communion. We value our worship, learning, fellowship and education. Although we have had a long history in Manhasset, we are a growing church, which welcomes new members.

Although our history is long, we are making many new beginnings. Our rector, the Rev. Dr. David B. Lowry, has re-joined Christ Church in March 2004. He was a seminarian at Christ Church more than 35 years ago and served as Assistant Rector from 1971 to 1975. Since then he earned three addition graduate degrees (to add to the two degrees he already had) including a doctor’s degree in English history, taught at a seminary, served as Canon Pastor at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City, became Dean of Christ Church Cathedral in New Orleans and then took 14 years to work in industry as a vice president for a large, multi-national corporation. He has lived in and traveled to many parts of the world and is considered an expert on corporate social responsibility and human rights—two topics about which he writes and lectures widely. Hence he brings new and interesting insights to the church and the world.

Our organist-choirmaster is also brand new!
Nancy Ludwig has served as organist-choirmaster at the Cathedral of the Incarnation and various parishes across Long Island.  Nancy has worked extensively with children and teenagers as well as adult choir programs. She brings the talent, experience and enthusiasm that will be required to sustain our adult and children’s choral programs that will enhance the life of the parish.

Kathy Hoffmann, our Parish Administrator, is the lifeblood of our Parish office, who somehow pulls together our many ministries, activities and meetings with incomparable grace and charm.  Kathy has an outstanding knowledge of Christ Church operations, committees and contacts, which is invaluable in coordinating and assisting our many Parish members, partners and friends.

As proud as we are of our core staff, the center of Christ Church is our lay leadership. With long-term members and newcomers to the church and community, Christ Church is expanding its programs in the areas of Christian education, youth ministry, pastoral care and outreach and fellowship. This web site will give you an idea about what is happening at Christ Church. We hope our members will take full advantage of our programs and activities—and if you are not part of our family, we hope you will want to join with us, either by becoming a member of our parish family or by just dropping by to take advantage of our many and varied programs.

Sincerely,
Andrew Phillips, Senior Warden         Vincent McGIll, Junior Warden
