2005 Report of the
Wardens
____________________________________________________________________________________________
With the transition from the retirement of Les Hughs to the Interim Priest roles of Stephen Woods and Stephen Peverley, we have now completed the last step in our journey to the selection of a new Rector.
Over the last several months at Vestry meetings, there was a continued sense that we needed to review and discern the direction of the parish, as it related to our financial situation, our need for a Capital Fund, and our need for resolution for the Parish House and properties to become a stable financial contributor.
It is the overwhelming view of the Vestry that we need to develop the Parish House property in order to create a stable, long-term revenue stream to help support Christ Church. It is the Vestry’s strong preference to accomplish this without selling the property. Under the direction of the Rev. David Lowry, a Campus Planning Committee had preliminary discussions with: (1) a prominent local developer about constructing an office building; (2) a local developer proposing senior housing; and, (3) consultants regarding the Christ Church campus as a cemetery. At the January 12th Vestry meeting, approval for the Christ church campus as a cemetery was discussed and approved.
There were continuing accomplishments, particularly in the Buildings & Grounds area. These have included:
The continued refurbishment of the New Rectory
The painting of the Parish House, new lighting and a new Kitchen. The Parish House projects were accomplished with COS absorbing major expenses for these projects.
In summary, we have continued to place several of our facilities in the condition that all of us would expect to maintain for our own homes.
We would be remiss if we did not thank those members of the Vestry whose terms are expiring: the Wardens, Vestry members Robert Pavlovich, Joseph Sevely and Penny Tadler. The Vestry’s tasks are never easy or light, and to them we say: Thank you for your service to Christ Church.
As a Parish Family, we have accomplished many projects in the past year as we are starting on the path to resolving our financial condition. The parish family has grown both in Stewardship and the increasing role that Lay Leadership plays in the parish.
At the January 26th Vestry Meeting, the Assistant Clerk of the Vestry cast a single vote, representing the unanimous decision by the Vestry to elect the Rev. David M. Lowry as the Sixteenth Rector of Christ Church. David assumed the Rector position March 1st, 2004.
How blessed we are as a parish family to have David as our new Rector. Indeed, Divine intervention has been guiding us throughout the search process.
Respectfully Submitted,
William Siener Jeffrey Lightcap
