2005 Church School Report
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Our Sunday
School flourishes with the 43 registered children now in attendance in Nursery
through 5th Grade. The interim class and the Junior and Senior Youth
grades bring the complement to 78. As much as we regret the loss of Lisa Field
and Jane Lightcap as teachers this year, we are extremely fortunate that Lori
Kelly has joined our staff and is co-teaching the fifth grade. Lori brings her
enthusiastic knowledge of the Bible and the Episcopal religion to the classroom
as well as fun activities. She is a great asset to our Sunday School.
All our teachers give 100 percent to planning each lesson, classroom time and individual attention to the children. Their devotion to the children and our church is truly evident.
Sunday School begins at 9:30 Sunday mornings with the inclusion of a Chapel service led by Fr. Lowry and Gideon Pollack. This is a children’s edition of the Church service. The children learn hymns, do their own readings, have their own sermon and say the Nicene Creed enough times that some will have learned it by June (hopefully).
Highlights of the projects and activities in which the children were involved during the past year:
Shrove Tuesday / Mardi Gras pot luck party
Lenten projects
Easter Egg Hunt
Spring planting Sunday
Awards Sunday and Parish Picnic
Blessing of the Animals
“Welcome Back” Ice Cream Sunday
Halloween costume / All Saint’s Day celebration
A mural of Thanksgiving
Christmas Pageant
Outreach
Valentine’s day cards for hospital wards
Thanksgiving decorations and cards for hospital wards
Fourth Food Sunday
UNICEF Halloween boxes
Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes
Our goals for the Sunday School remain as in the past:
To help children know and love Jesus and God; to have an opportunity get to know each other, to feel at home in the church and to become involved members of our church family.
To attain more consistent attendance records for the children through parental commitment and by offering exciting and interesting classes and lessons.
To keep all children involved in ongoing participation and study.
To encourage the older children to combine study and service to the church.
To keep parents apprised of what is being taught in Sunday School, thereby keeping the “Sunday” dialogue open at home during the week.
As always, we
appreciate any suggestions or comments the parish family may have regarding our
Sunday School and we thank everyone for their continued support in our efforts
to educate the children. Please don’t hesitate to speak to any of the teachers
with any of your thoughts or ideas.
Respectfully submitted,
Arlene Blocker, Susan Bunyon, Lisa Carr, Vera Davis, Lori Kelly, Holly Melichar, Pam Storozum and Heather Bennett, Director.
