2005 Liturgy, Worship and Music Report
The center of the life of the church is
communal worship—and at Christ Church the focus of worship is the Holy
Eucharist. Each Sunday we gather to share in the mystery of Christ’s presence
in bread and wine, made for us into the living presence of the Christ. At
Christ Church all ages participate in the Eucharistic celebration.
On Sundays there are three services: a said Eucharist with sermon at 8:00am; a
sung Eucharist with sermon at 10:00am and a said Eucharist at 6:00pm. At the
time of the consecration of the bread and wine at the 10:00am service, the
Church School students (through grade 5) join their parents in the church to
receive Holy Communion.
The Church School gathers at 9:30am in the St. Christopher’s Chapel (in the
Parish House) for their own ‘pro-anaphora’ service (songs, lessons, prayers and
homily) before going to classes from 9:55 to 10:35am.
On Thursday mornings at 10:00am there is a mid-week celebration of the Holy Eucharist in the St. Christopher’s Chapel. During the summer, the Thursday morning Eucharist is replaced by Wednesday evening home Eucharists followed by pot-luck dinners.
In addition to clergy participation in the liturgy, we also have a large group of lay-people who regularly assist at the Eucharist. This includes lectors, intercessors, lay-Eucharistic ministers, acolytes, choristers and members of the altar guild. This year we will be expanding the ministry of lectors and intercessors to include young people in junior and senior high school.
