Liturgy Notes
____________________________________________________________________________________________
The center of the life of the church is
communal worship—and at Christ Church the focus of worship is the Holy
Eucharist. Each Sunday we gather to share in the mystery of Christ’s presence
in bread and wine, made for us into the living presence of the Christ. At
Christ Church all ages participate in the Eucharistic celebration.
On Sundays there are three services: a said Eucharist with sermon at 8:00 a.m.; a
sung Eucharist with sermon at 10:00 a.m. and a said Eucharist at 6:00 p.m. The Church School students join their parents in the church to
receive Holy Communion.
The Church School gathers at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Christopher’s Chapel (in the
Parish House) for their own ‘pro-anaphora’ service (songs, lessons, prayers and
homily) before going to classes from 9:55 to 10:35am.
On Thursday mornings at 10:00 a.m. there is a mid-week celebration of the Holy Eucharist in the Chapel. During the summer, there is an additional Wednesday evening home Eucharist followed by a pot-luck dinner.
In
addition to clergy participation in the liturgy, we also have a large group of
lay-people who regularly assist at the Eucharist. This includes lectors,
intercessors, lay-Eucharistic ministers, acolytes, choristers and members of the
altar guild. Young people in junior and senior high school are also encouraged to participate as lectors and intercessors.
