2005 Youth Ministry Report
Cherubim – Ages
10-13
The Christ
Church Cherubim were very busy in 2004. They continued to meet
weekly on Thursday nights from 5-7pm in their room located on the
ground level of the Parish House.
Some of the
highlights and special events of the first part of the year were an
ice skating social at Christopher Morley Park in January, making and
sending Valentines to members of the parish in February, hosting a
Labyrinth walk with leader, Canon Ruth Ann Collins, during Lent,
participation in a Gospel Tableau during the service portion of Kids
of the Kingdom in Garden City, tie dying t-shirts, prayer walks in
the cemetery and an end of the year picnic to celebrate the end of
their first year together.
During Lent, the
Cherubim worked on many projects while learning about the Lenten
season and its symbols. They decorated the display case in the
lower hallway of the parish house, made Anglican prayer beads, and
worked on service projects to help decorate North Shore Hospital.
In October, the
Cherubim reunited with a weekend at Camp De Wolf, lead by Penelope
Tadler and Fr. David Lowry. It was a weekend filled with team
building, rock climbing, and soccer, playing on the beach, prayer
activities, and camp fires. Everyone had a wonderful time. It was
a great way to begin the new school year.
Using Charles
Shultz’s Peanuts characters and films, the Cherubim have been
learning about faith and persistence through Charlie Brown and his
friends. They have been watching some of the films and listening to
Gospel stories which relate to the story lines. This has created a
great forum for discussion.
Service projects
for the fall season included raising money for Heifer International
and creating Christmas cards for members of the parish. They also
had a booth at the Holly Fair, selling hand made ornaments and
knickknacks.
At the writing
of this report, the Cherubim are getting ready to launch a fund
raising project to help the victims of the Tsunami. They will
continue to work on strengthening their faith paths and to reach out
to those in need.
