2006 Youth Ministry Report
Cherubim –
The Christ
Church Cherubim were very busy in 2005. They continued to meet
weekly on Thursday nights from
5-7pm in their room located on
the ground level of the Parish House. There were some changes made
in September. The age range was becoming too large and the group
split into two smaller groups. The younger group (grades 5-6) met
with Father Lowry and the older group (grades 7-9) continued to meet
with Penny Tadler.
In January, the
Cherubim launched a fund raising project to help the victims of the
Tsunami. They sold Bishop’s Blend Coffee. Proceeds benefited those
living in Tsunami damaged areas, including Indonesia, where the
coffee was produced.
Some
of the highlights and special events of the first part of the year
were making and sending Valentines to members of the parish in
February, viewing and discussing Jesus Christ Superstar,
participating in Kids of the Kingdom in Garden City, prayer walks in
the cemetery and an end of the year picnic to celebrate the end of
the school year.
In September,
the two groups met separately. The older group has been working on
various art projects, including a new display for the glass cabinet
in the lower hall of the parish house. The group also viewed and
discussed the movie Saved.
In December they took a field trip to the Cathedral to walk the
Labyrinth in the undercroft, with dinner and discussion afterwards
with Canon Ruth-Ann Collins. They also continued the tradition
of sending out Christmas cards to various members of the parish
community.
At the writing of this report, some of the Cherubim will have just
returned from “Faith in 3D”, a youth convention held in Orlando, Florida.
Overall it has been a successful year. The Cherubim will continue
to examine their faith paths and to find ways to reach out to those
in the church family and beyond.
