Meredith Baker, Organist and Choir Director
Meredith Baker grew up singing in choirs at Grace Lutheran Church, Malverne. At age 3, she began piano lessons, and organ at age 9. Her organ studies continued through Juilliard Prep, and she then studied with Norman Hollett at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City. Studies continued with Joan Lippincott, Chariles Dodsley Walker, Paul Maynard, Paul Martin-Maki and McNeil Robinson
Meredith began studies at Westminster Choir College, but transferred to Queens College, CUNY, and earned her BM and MA, both in organ performance. She became Charles Dodsley Walker’s, assistant at Church of the Heavenly Rest for three years. Earning her AAGO before her BM, Meredith earned her ChM the next year.
She received her FAGO certificate in ’98. She holds a Professional Certificate in Church Music from Manhattan School of Music.
She was appointed conductor of The Long Island Choral Society at the Garden City Cathedral in 1979, and celebrated her 40th anniversary with them last March.
She tserced as Organist ChoirMaster at Christ Church, Manhasset from ‘78 to ’84. She has since served in that position at St John’s Church, Cold Spring Harbor and All Saints, Great Neck. She then went to the United States Military Academy at West Point as Director of Music at the Catholic Chapel for 24 ½ years. Having retired in ’16, she returned to Christ Church, Manhasset after a year of subbing around Long Island.
Miss Baker has been an Adjunct Professor of Music and Artist Faculty member at Nassau Community College since 1978. She has volunteered as an AMT (paramedic) on the Malverne Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and played golf since taking the course at Queens College in ’74. She has scored two holes in one. She has been Club Champion and long-time member at Mountain Manor in Marshall’s Creek, President of the West Point Ladies Golf Club, and President of the Women’s Hudson River Golf Association. She presently has 3 cats and
