Looking to hear some darker - but all true! - stories? Meet fallen angels and helpless victims on this walking tour through Christ Church Cemetery. Attendees will tour the ancient cemetery with their spirit guide, visiting the final resting places of Manhasset's notable and not-so notable residents. You will walk amongst the dead in burying grounds over 200 years old and hear stories of those mortal remains that lie beneath your feet as their spirits rise for the occasion and are dying to share their true, yet often dark, tales.

Since 2019, the Christ Church Historic Cemetery Tour brings to life with volunteer re-enactors the people who once lived and worked in Manhasset and the surrounding communities. These people were important to our community and have wonderful stories to be shared. From a Society Lady to a Farmer, a Doctor to a Whippersnapper. Their last names are still mentioned in our everyday life; Sands (Sands Point), Onderdonk (Onderdonk Avenue), Hewlett (Hewlett Harbor) and many more. Every cemetery in a community has a story to tell and this tour tells you our story.

Join from 12:30pm - 4:00pm for 45-50min tours of our historic Christ Church Cemetery.

First Adult Education Series for Fall 2024

The Theology of Jed Bartlet: Faith & Politics in the West Wing

Tuesday Evenings Sept. 10, 17, 24, & October 8 at 6:30pm.

In-person in the Parish Hall Guild Room & via Zoom.

Beginning on Tuesday evening September 10th, at 6:30pm, we will once again engage our faith and our politics in the context of the show The West Wing. Four years ago, leading up to the General Election in 2020, we engaged this same topic with the West Wing. This season, we will watch one or two of the same episodes and two new ones, as well.

As we enter the two months leading up the General Election on Tuesday November 5th, Father Stephen is offering an entertaining and easy way to engage our faith and our politics with one of his all-time favorite TV series. While in seminary, Father Stephen, and a few of his classmates and professors, put together an adult formation project based around faith and the West Wing.

Have you ever watched the West Wing? It follows the fictional Presidency of Jed Bartlet, a devout Catholic. Throughout his presidency, President Bartlet’s role as the most powerful man in the world intersects with his deeply held religious beliefs.

This class will be both in-person in the Guild Room and via Zoom. Zoom links sent out the day of the class.

Sunday November 17th, 2024

This offering will be a liturgical Sunday School, with a shortened Eucharist service, a Gospel and  children's homily based on a Sunday School curriculum, prayers, and and an outreach project/program.

If you know of anyone who might be interested in this offering, please let them know about it! The more people who spread the word and encourage others to join, the more this service will grow.

A Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols

Sunday December 15, 2024 4:00pm

Followed by a festive reception in the Parish Hall.

Join us for the traditional Anglican service of Lessons & Carols in the model of King's College, Cambridge. The lessons from Scripture, the carols sung by the choir, and the hymns sung by all, allow us to enter fully and prayerfully into the season of Advent and Christmas.

This service, built largely upon ancient models, was revived in 1880 by Archbishop Benson for use at Truro Cathedral. It has been firmly established as a preparation for Christmas by its use at King’s College, Cambridge, on which service this one is modeled. Wherever the service is heard, and however it is adapted, the pattern and strength of the service, as the Very Reverend Eric Milner-White, former Dean at King’s pointed out, derives from the lessons and not the music. “The main theme is the development of the loving purposes of God…seen through the windows and words of the Bible.” The center of the service is still found by those who ‘go in hearts and minds to Bethlehem’ and who consent to follow where the story leads. Then they may see revealed the God who is among us - and worship.
