Wedding - Alaina Crawford-399_edited.jpg

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy.
Love is never boastful, nor conceited, nor rude;
It is not self-seeking, nor easily angered.
It keeps no record of wrongdoing.
It does not delight in evil,
But rejoices in the truth.

1 Corinthians 13: 4-5

BAPTISMS

A baptism is a full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ's Body, the church. God establishes an indissoluble bond with each person in baptism. God adopts us, making us members of the church and inheritors of the Kingdom of God. In baptism we are made sharers in the new life of the Holy Spirit and the forgiveness of sins. Baptism is the foundation for all future church participation and ministry.

N., I baptize you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

N., you are sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ's own for ever. Amen.

Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ's Body the Church. The bond which God establishes in Baptism is indissoluble. Each candidate for Holy Baptism is to be sponsored by one or more baptized persons. Sponsors of adults and older children present their candidates and thereby signify their endorsement of the candidates and their intention to support them by prayer and example in their Christian life. Sponsors of infants, commonly called godparents, present their candidates, make promises in their own names, and also take vows on behalf of their candidates.

It is fitting that parents be included among the godparents of their own children. Parents and godparents are to be instructed in the meaning of Baptism, in their duties to help the new Christians grow in the knowledge and love of God, and in their responsibilities as members of his Church.

- Baptism, Concerning the Service,
The Book of Common Prayer, 298.

John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins. And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey; And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Mark 1: 4-11

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.

John 11: 25-26

WHAT DO WE AS EPISCOPALIANS AND CHRISTIANS BELIEVE ABOUT GOD, JESUS, AND THE QUESTIONS OF LIFE AND DEATH?

CREATION IS GOOD

God has made all that there is, and all that God has made is good, including us.

JESUS WAS RAISED FROM DEATH TO LIFE

We believe that as a fully human person, Jesus died on the cross at Golgotha, just as all humans die, yet death could not keep him, and so he was raised from the dead to life again. We celebrate this miraculous truth on Easter, and in fact, each and every Sunday.

GOD WON THE FINAL VICTORY OVER DEATH

Through the miracle of Jesus' Resurrection, God has won the ultimate victory, once and for all, in the human reality of life and death: Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we understand that although we, too, will ultimately face death as Jesus did, God will not abandon us, either, and we, too, will have new life. All that we are, which is so precious to God, will be brought to new and unending life.
